Government Securities Central Depository Law

The Government Securities Central Depository Law, commissioned by the Central Bank of Egypt in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) since 2018, was enacted as Law No. 143 of 2020.

Thebes Consultancy, in partnership with international consultancies, conducted baseline research on Egyptian law, analyzed various modalities, reviewed comparative experiences, and engaged in discussions with national stakeholders. Thebes worked alongside the Central Bank of Egypt’s legal advisors, experts from the Egyptian Stock Exchange, and the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority to help finalize the law.

This legislation establishes a new central depository company responsible for managing government securities.
