On Tuesday 30 January 2018, Thebes Consultancy hosted a Roundtable event for Egypt Legal Update subscribers on the new Universal Health Insurance Law No. 2 of 2018. The roundtable provided a brief historical background on Egyptian health insurance laws outlining the basic legislative architecture regulating Egypt’s healthcare sector. The Roundtable covered the Law’s scope and jurisdiction, its likely impact on the private sector, timeline for implementation, as well as its controversies.
The Roundtable concluded with a discussion evaluating the anticipated efficiency of the law and the ways in which the private sector will be able to collaborate with the new public sector system. Discussions also focused on the fees that are to be incurred by private insurance companies, pharmaceuticals, and businesses in general as a result of the future application of the Law and the potential consequences of this.
