Dr. Ziad Ahmed Bahaa-Eldin

Dr. Ziad Ahmed Bahaa-Eldin is an Egyptian lawyer and expert on financial law, investment and company laws, governance, compliance, and economic legislation. He is currently the Managing Partner at Thebes Consultancy and at Bahaa-Eldin Law Office in Cooperation With BonelliErede, the Non-Executive Chairman of Bank of Alexandria, and a non-executive member on several company boards of directors including the National Bank of Egypt UK, Arabian Cement Company, AXA Egypt, Allam Holding, MTI, Samcrete for Industrial Development, and Saray Capital (Dubai International Financial Centre). He previously held several public positions including the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Development and Minister of International Cooperation (2013-2014), Member of Parliament representing South Assiut (2012), Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority “FRA” (2009-2011), and Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones “GAFI” (2004-2007). He is also a former non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Egypt (2004-2011), the National Bank of Egypt (2005-2010), and a former Senior Legal Advisor to the Central Bank of Egypt (2011). From 2000 to 2004, Dr. Ziad was a practicing lawyer in Egypt, and from 1997 to 2000 the senior legal advisor to the Minister of Economy. Prior to this, he was in private practice in Cairo and Washington, DC. Dr. Ziad was also an adjunct lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the Cairo University (1998-2004). He is the founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Ahmed Bahaa-Eldin Cultural Foundation and a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University in Cairo and the Board of Trustees of the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration. Dr. Ziad received his Ph.D. in Financial Law from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (1997), an LL.M. in International Business Law from King’s College London (1989), a BA in Economics from the American University in Cairo (1987), and a Bachelor of Law from Cairo University (1986). He is a graduate of the Jesuites High School in Cairo (1982).

Mohammed Bassal

Mohamed joined Thebes Consultancy in 2021 as a legal researcher. He is a journalist who has been working as Managing Editor and Digital Content Director for Shorouk Newspaper since 2018. He has been covering Egyptian legal and political affairs since 2005, espicially The Judiciary (2008-2018) and The Presidency (2012-2016). He won the Egyptian Press Syndicate Award in 2010 and Heikal Award for Arabic Journalism in 2017. He has been working also for Law and Society Research Unit (LSRU), The American University in Cairo since 2014 as Senior Researcher, then as Legal Archive Coordinator. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism at Cairo University, 2006

Nora Harb

Nora joined Thebes Consultancy since its inception, and she provides investment advisory and legal consultancy services. Prior to joining Thebes Consultancy, Nora worked as Legal Assistant to the Chairman at the Financial Regulatory Authority (2010-2011), where she participated in drafting new legislations and amending current ones and conducted research on regional and national laws in several jurisdictions, namely EU, US, and UK laws. She also worked as a Legal Consultant at Trowers and Hamlins, Cairo Office (2008-2010) and as Junior Legal Consultant at Sarwat A. Shahid Law Firm (2005-2007). Nora was also the General Manager of Legal Affairs at Majid al-Futtaim Retail, Egypt (2015-2016) and rejoined Thebes Consultancy in 2016. Nora simultaneously earned a bachelor’s degree in law at Cairo University and political science at the American University in Cairo (2005) and obtained her LL.M. from the London School of Economics and Political Science with special focus on corporate and commercial laws (2008). She is admitted to practice law in Egypt. Arabic is her native language and she is fluent in English. Ismail Ramadan

Ismail joined Thebes Consultancy on September 2020 after working for the Consulate of the State of Kuwait in Los Angeles for over 2 years. During that time, he acted as the Consulate’s legal and political consultant. Prior to that, Ismail was a Senior Legislative Attorney for the Congressional Research Service and Legal Analyst for First Credit Bank, both roles performed in California, USA. While attending law school at Ein Shams University (English Section), Ismail trained at the Law offices of Ibrachy & Dermarkar as well as the law offices of Sarwat A. Shahid. Upon graduation, Ismail joined Trowers & Hamlins as a Legal Consultant (2007-2010) after which he obtained his Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Southern California. Ismail is admitted to practice law in Egypt.

Sara ElAshry

Sara is the General Manager of Thebes Consultancy starting 2016. Prior to that, she was Business Development Officer responsible for the marketing of the Egypt Legal Update service, which provides a legal commentary on laws and regulations pertaining to business in Egypt. Sara was the Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (2009-2011). Sara worked previously as a Conference Specialist at COMESA Regional Investment Agency, Egypt (2008-2009), and in the past served as an Economic Researcher at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (2003-2008). She holds a Sales & Marketing Diploma from American University in Cairo (2008). She also holds a BA of Arts from Ain Shams University (2003) and has fourteen years of working experience.

Dalia Sokkar

Dalia joined Thebes Consultancy in 2013. Prior to that, she was a legal secretary at Trowers and Hamlins’ Cairo office (2010-2013). Dalia also worked as an International Account Adviser at Vodafone Egypt (2009), and in the past served as Assistant to Sales Manager Middle East and Africa of dpa, Deutsche Presse-Agentur GmbH (The German Press Agency) (2004-2009). Dalia earned her BA in Management Studies from the Sadat Academy of Management Sciences (2003), and an MBA from Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (2017). Arabic is her native language and she is fluent in English.

Isabelle Shaker

Isabelle joined Thebes Consultancy in 2012. She is responsible for internal administrative matters and office expenses. She is concurrently the Executive Secretary of the Ahmed Bahaa-Eldin Foundation, where she is responsible for correspondence, filing systems, and event preparation. Previously, Isabelle was the Office Manager at Egypt’s Insight Magazine. Isabelle is a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Cairo University.
